I drove the 2011 Chrysler 200 Touring version yesterday, a mildly windy afternoon, which made the microphone in-op for my test drive video other than inside, where the cabin was quiet and relatively road/wind noise-free other than on hard acceleration. Since it is a V V T, it does give you the wind-up sound as it hunkers down to get up to speed, however, once there it handles reliably. The suspension is tight, limiting body roll, however the wheels pinned out give it a not-as-tight turning ratio as other cars in its class: Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, Ford Fusion, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and maybe the new Chevrolet Cruze. The sad part is other than the new badge, new dash and new warranty: 5yr. or 100k power-train, it #fails to excite even the un-enthusiast car owner AND for the price, it can’t pull rank on value either. I’m sorry to say but the 2011 Chrysler 200 is stuck mid-stream in the list of an over-crowded mid-size sedan market where the foreign competitors and some of the domestics have beat it awhile ago. The short story, it starts at $18k and goes to $24k hard loaded, offered as a 4cyl and a 6 cyl, with unimpressive fuel economy (20/31) even in the V V T. Base, Touring or Limited, the chassis is the same size and configuration. The seats are way more comfortable in the leather version, but the legroom is decent in the rear (not as much in rear headroom as the Optima or Sonata). IMHO, the most alarming note is the very large C-pillar creating an ugly blind-spot. (If you are under 5’6 this is crucial.) I give the 2011 Chrysler 200 a B- on overall ROI. If it ends up flooding the rental fleets that could slip to a C pretty quick. Sorry Chrysler, I have higher hopes for the Chrysler 300, we’ll have to wait and see… ——————————————————————————————— IMAGINE payments as low as $200.00 a month OAC.
