MyCarlady took a recently traded (600 mile) Fisker Karma for a test drive and found it delivered as promised, no surprises. With all the press about Fisker the car company and the car itself, I found myself determined to keep an open mind and balanced expectations. The outright sexy look gets heads turning and you have to take an extra measure of driving awareness to compensate for gawking drivers and motorcycle cops. The power under the hood tricks you into wanting to go fast when 80 mph feels like 50 and the quietness of the engine in stealth (electric) mode makes you want to push the pedal harder. Sport mode, the gas side, definately lets you know the pedal has hit the metal, with a growl. The guages recognize the bandwidth while the speedo flashes like a sumo on a scale.  With 900 Ft. Lbs of torque driving to the rear wheels, the back-end can get away from you if you aren’t paying attention. The handling is so responsive however, you never really get into trouble. The huge 22′ rims are fitted into the wheel wells like a glove, and hold the road with barely an inch to spare. The sight lines are narrow but a back-up camera aids with parking lots, the rear view and folding side-view mirrors take car of the rest. A slight blind-spot by the c pillar forces your attention back to the mirrors.  You can sit yourself up higher in the seat, but the Karma is wide and long, which takes some getting used to when configuring the garage space. Leave enough room to the charger, which takes 8 hours to get you the full 40 mile range, adequate for most commuters. The interior is beautifully appointed in all natural, sustainable materials that cushion your body and feel rich to the touch. The suede-like fabric in the CHIC model is actually more expensive than the leather made from “retired” cows. Check out this video, of a quick test drive I just took, and try to get yourself behind the wheel, just so you can say you did. This is no Prius kids, this is the real deal and the smaller version, nicknamed the Project Nina, should be here next year with a price tag of $50k. —————————  Sarah Lee Marks is MyCarlady.
