“WOW what a car!” I exclaimed after taking a spin around the highway and through some of Las Vegas’ neighborhoods where the 2012 Audi A7 would barely stand-out among the Mercedes, Beemers,  Aston Martin and Porsche Panameras’ in the clubhouse drive. However, when I popped the trunk-like hatch and the caddy pulled a couple BIG golf bags out, even the four-somes took a second, then third look. SEXY and STYLISH-GENDER-NEUTRAL It’s nice to drive something NO ONE ELSE has… and for the price, MPG and style, I was feeling pretty cool, even though it was a borrowed driver for an afternoon of test drive challenges. The look is true to the Audi-European heritage, but like their commercials suggest, it’s time for something new for today’s driver. It’s not the same ‘ole Bratwurst. The SUPERCHARGED 3.0l 6 cyl with an 8 speed auto transmission does a 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and barely makes a peep when you ask it for more. Yes, there is enough engine growl to satisfy my over 50 lust for power, but the rest of the package hooked this tech junkie in with everything but an iPad easel. You can’t think of all the things this car can do from the steering wheel, but Jim DiGuilio, GM-Partner of Audi of Henderson helped me understand just a few of the 101 different techno-tricks to making this car come to life in my hands. Aside from the technology, the quiet inside the cabin and outside when in idle could be so close to an electric car, Audi will have to add a noise to let you know it’s still running, when you walk away with the key in your pocket, having forgotten the push button start and stop. Opps, they got an app for that! Driving it is the treat of the week… You can individualize the ride for comfort, auto and dynamic, blow it out on the freeway or settle back for the leisure drive to LA. There is GREAT satisfaction in knowing you can have all this luxury, technology and safety while your gas card is safe. At 30mpg on the highway, estimated 25 in the city, the other luxury cars in this class look like hogs going to … Oktoberfest. The turning radius is surprisingly tight for a car this size. No body roll or steering issues, the sensitivity to your speed allows single-finger maneuvering, along with a camera, and line markers for easy reverse parking.  Not only can you not HEAR the road bumps, you never feel them, which is great for those long trips where naps are involved. And just in case you start to fall asleep at the wheel, Audi has had all the touted safety features: side approach and lane change/drift warning lights,  audible and active cruise, heads-up display for over 5 years and enough airbags to protect a Lalique vase wearing a seat-belt. The suspension holds the road without throwing you into the bolstered, heated and cooled seats. The head and legroom in the rear is reasonable for a large person, with dual climate control and a seat cushion that fits more than your ample touche. If you can’t tell I REALLY like this car, well here it is a 5 star review. MY VERY FIRST for the MYCARLADY Test Drives column. If I had any complaints, well, you won’t be able to get one easily… Supply will be limited so call me if you need a hook-up. Check out the video where Jim explains SUPERCHARGED technology vs. TURBO and much more… P.S. Another review from across the Atlantic has weighed-in at 4 stars from Automotive Review. She says basically the same thing as I have but the video is cool to see this Audi A7 with right-hand drive!
