Is donating your old car to charity a good deed or a scam for a free car?

I was recently contacted to discuss how you can be sure the car you are donating is going to the cause or charity you have selected for your good deed, and what you need to know BEFORE you call the local shelter, church or good Samaritan club.

There are a number of things you should ask when contacting the charity, as some, by example: in Las Vegas and Henderson, Nevada, no longer take car donations. National organizations like the Red Cross, NSPCA, etc, have very strict policies regarding the overall condition of the vehicle and how the car value is determined. This is important when you want to decide how much to take as a taxable donation and how much money the organizationis actually getting for the car. With Cash for Junker, some old cars are worth MORE than you would believe. If the car is sold at an auto auction or given to a family in need the value stated can vary widely.

FREE CAR to a Good Home:

One of my friends runs a repair shop and he put together a group of fellow garage owners to fix up donated cars to give church families at Christmas time. All the parts and labor was donated and the cars were given a new life.  How the value of these cars is determined on a different scale, and not always clear-cut when you are trying to do something charitable. You really need to have clear documentation on how the car you are donating will be handled, especially for the pending income tax ramifications.    READ more:  CHARITABLE CAR DONATIONS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW,  courtesy of Bankrate.com If you need any car buying, selling, trading or financing assistance on any new or used vehicle, please do not hesitate to email me at sarahlee@mycarlady.com,mvides422@gmail.com,carlady@cox.net or give me a call; 702-521-7546 I’m here to help you with any of your automotive needs and advice is free.
