TAX TIPS: Yes, the credit per mile on your auto business use is going DOWN, as gas prices go up. If you aren’t keeping a log, go back and print out your appointment book from last year. This is one area the IRS is going to look very hard at, according to Mr. Norman Marks, my CFO-tax preparer to the stars.
Norman is currently booking appointments for your tax filing needs, and all MYCARLADY clients get a discount. Basic returns are $99.00- He does corporate returns and has a CPA/ enrolled agent in his office for “special circumstances”. Private and Confidential.

New DMV “LIVE” ALERT!
DMV new insurance update in line. The new Nevada “LIVE” online system was supposed to help the state manage registered vehicles without insurance, aka: uninsured drivers. However, the insurance companies haven’t been able to access the system 24/7 and many law-abiding citizens have gotten letters that they are subject to a $250.00 fee for lack of insurance. This can be caused by switching carriers or late renewals or simple computer software glitches.
SO, protect yourself.
Go online to http://www.dmvnv.com and check to see if your car (get your registration out) is up-to-date with the insurance carrier listed on the DMV website. If not, make the change or call your agent. The DMV’s new commissioner is holding up future letters for 90 days while they attempt to catch up, but be proactive.
Also, if you sold a car private party and DID NOT SWAP the plates to another vehicle or retire them to DMV, go online to this same website and tell DMV. This gets you off the hook for any potential trouble, ESPECIALLY if you left the plates on the sold car. You can keep the plate for up to 6 mos, should you want to use it again, but letting DMV know the car is sold, will keep you in the clear.
Trade-ins to dealers don’t count.
SMOGs are required on cars over 2 years of age.
NOTE: DMV has a special hotline for family members or doctors to report concerns regarding elderly drivers abilities behind the wheel. It’s confidential and could save a life, maybe yours!

HOT CARS and NO INVENTORY. It seems a shame that the hottest cars around are in short supply when factories are not at full capacity, but such is the case with Hyundai, KIA, some Jeep, Toyota and Chevy product. Blame the parts suppliers, so say the car factories. However, the suppliers have legit concerns. After having several of the major auto manufacturers’ return or fail to pay for parts ordered that never made it into a car, and the BK reorg of GM and Chrysler, suppliers want payment of 50% upfront before they commit to increase production. Given the 120 day turnaround from demand to car dealer delivery (sold unit), the current banking system will not lend 100% on future order contracts, so the turn and earn cash flow is keeping dealer lots empty. This has also caused a dramatic reduction in rebates and pricing discounts. The old way of selling cars was to push demand through heavy discounts, the new way is to drive demand by making better product and less of it. This may backfire on the auto makers and the economy. Consumers can easily justify not buying when the car they want isn’t there at the price they perceive to be reasonable, or they switch brand/model because availability and price trump loyalty.
Expect used car prices to remain at the current (HIGH) levels through April, with the exception of luxury sedans and BIG SUV GAS guzzlers. According to AOL autos, consumers are already showing sensitivity to MPG in their car shopping research. If you want a PRIUS, HONDA CIVIC, CHEVY VOLT, NISSAN LEAF or Fisker Karma, act now or pay more in the Spring.

What’s my BEST NEW CAR BUY for 2011? Toyota Corolla, Kia Forte, Honda FIT in SMALL SEDANS.
Price to Value rebates and low interest rates make these 3 very close, so style, comfort and color will be your deciding breakers.
MIDSIZE SEDAN? KIA OPTIMA, Hyundai Sonata (but I am squeamish on the Hyundai service departments in town, so call me for off the grid service centers that can honor the warranty. Camry and Accord are now aggressively discounting and offering free maintenance for 2 years to narrow the price-value difference.
SUV? KIA SORENTO and SPORTAGE so beat the others in style, value and performance, it’s not close. Hyundai restyled the Tucson in 2010 and the Santa Fe gets a makeover next year, but my same service issues apply. Call me to arrange a NO HASSLE, NO PRESSURE test drive at your convenience. 702-521-7546
