The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has added more appointments.

In January 2021.

If you need to get a moving permit, you can get in line with all your documents. This will buy you ($2.00) up to 60 days to get an appointment. With expanded hours 7am to 6pm Monday-Friday. NO SATURDAYS. NO WALKINS. However, you REALLY NEED to cancel your appointment if you aren’t going to use it. Early morning appointments have been going unused in some DMV locations.

NO FINES, JUST FEES at the NV DMV.

The Extension is over.  Say you bought a car this spring and still haven’t registered it, be prepared to pay for up to 18 months worth of registration, plus late fees. There is no grace period if you bought the car last week from a dealer or private party. The grace period is gone.

It is up to you to get an appointment or hire a  Motor Vehicle Registration Service to get the plate and title for you.  Prices and terms of service vary from one company to another. Location, Mobility, Turn-around all have a bearing on the prices. MyCarlady is mobile and will meet at their office, on the road or in a public location.  Others have offices or work from SMOG shops, convenience stores or Insurance offices.l

COVID-19 has changed DMV forever.

With Covid-19, some registration services have curtailed their offerings or areas of service.  The price is tied to the turnaround, so be realistic. Please do your due diligence to be sure you are hiring a licensed, bonded DMV document preparer. Known scams involve people posing as registration services who try to make appointments in your name. (This is illegal if they represent that they are a registration service). The Nevada DMV is not easy to get on the phone, so do your research via the www.DMVNV.com website.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A NV DMV REGISTRATION SERVICE:

  1.  Get a copy of their invoice/receipt which shows the NV Document Preparer license number.
  2.  Does the invoice/receipt indicate the start and finish date for the service(s).
  3.  Make a copy of your paperwork before you hand it off to the service.
  4.  Are the charges itemized? Do you know what the DMV charges are, separate from the registration service fees.
  5.  Check their reviews on Google, YELP or NextDoor.
