Thank you Prez Obama for stating the facts… the American auto industry needs to sell 14 million cars a year to remain “healthy”.  That includes all aspects of the car buying process. The parts suppliers must provide quality parts, while the manufacturers realign good paying jobs to maintain a skilled workforce. The auto finance arms of the car manufacturers have to make good quality, equity-balanced car loans that return a decent interest rate on the car note while minimizing risk.  Dealers must get behind the program with programs designed to provide the consumer with a positive purchase and service experience.  When all these stars and moons line up across the heavens, we’ll have a healthy auto economy. In the meantime, the President suggests we all need a new car at some point and should embrace the idea of buying a new car while helping the economy we will reduce our carbon footprint and reliance on gas guzzlers.  [caption id="attachment_537" align="alignleft" width="128" caption="2009 Dodge Ram 2500"]2009 Dodge Ram 2500[/caption] Well that’s a great idea sir, BUT, assuming your appearance on The Tonight Show enlightened Americans of the automakers plight, I’m not sure how much it assured my family and neighbors of their own job stability, at least enough to start us rushing out to test drive Detroit’s newest offerings.  While you urge us to consider the new auto sales tax deduction program,  could you please tell me what the CAR CZARS are doing to ease car credit, reduce the strangle-hold of promises that cost each US car an extra couple grand over the import brand and offer more incentives to build/buy alternative fuel vehicles? IMHO, such initiatives seem to be bantered about but haven’t arrived at the dealership door.  Perhaps the Car Czar’s need some help from an independent car gal with experience in the industry. I’m volunteering to add a new dimension to the board; one of the ultimate demographic to speak for the car buying and selling public with no political capital or connections.
