Just when KIA looked like they were really taking a bite out of the domestic and Japanese car marketshare… out comes a recall claiming 23,000 2010 Kia Soul and 11,000 2011 Kia Sportage for a possible fire hazard involving the lighting around the front door -mounted speakers.  KIA, unlike Mazda and Toyota, has chosen to be very quiet about the situation, noting the increased scrutiny of NHTSA on foreign-owned car companies (regardless of the fact that KIA is the latest automaker to open a plant here in the US). Local KIA dealers  have not received specifics on when the actual  replacement parts will arrive, however, all owners with the designated vehicle identification numbered lot will be notified of the need to have their cars inspected and parts replaced as quickly as possible. The 2011 Kia Soul and current releases of the 2011 Kia Sorento SX, LX and EX are not affected.  No deaths have occured as a result of this problematic part.
